Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.
Once you’re in cruise mode in a plane, the seatbelt light goes off and you can sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. It’s every pilot’s dream to have a smooth journey with no bumps or turbulence along the way.
The gazebo build was progressing nicely. Cement, bricks, poles, thatch and tiles occupied our days and each small building victory was worth celebrating. Looking back at the early ‘before’ pictures from 2017 reminds us (somewhat wistfully) of our youthful enthusiasm! It was all one big exciting adventure and we were headed in the right direction. Tourism was booming in 2017 and a lot of people were asking us when we were going to open. A few said that we would “miss the wave”. We were not in a rush.
With time on our hands, we were able to pursue other interests. We travelled to the UK, where our two adult children were living. The Captain of our family had been training hard to obtain his helicopter license, the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. We all had a chance to fly with him in a helicopter which was simply the best!
If you’ve never been in a helicopter, add it to your bucket list whilst visiting Victoria Falls. There is nothing quite like flying over such a vast expanse of water and having a bird’s eye view of the meandering river cascading over the gorge. It may just be one of the most invigorating, memorable experiences you will ever have.
And who doesn’t love a wedding?!! A family wedding in the UK in July 2017 was the perfect excuse for us to gather the clan once again, to reconnect, rejoice and celebrate. We came back home to Zimbabwe with hearts overflowing.
Victoria Falls makes the most idyllic setting for a wedding. Whether it’s a riverside safari style celebration with unimpeded views of the Zambezi River, or a more conventional reception at one of the many beautiful lodges and hotels, the choices are almost endless. There are plenty of romantic options for honeymooners too… Pamarah has its very own honeymoon suite if you’re looking for privacy and a more intimate, secluded retreat.
On that happy note we say goodbye to our smooth cruise. The point of no return is looming on our next leg of the journey; where turning back is not an option, where the future is uncertain, and where the horizon seems miles and miles away. We are about to leave our comfort zone and risk the unknown…
